Quando Mourvédre 2016

Quando Mourvedre Red

Blend: 100% Mourvèdre

The Quando Mourvedre Red hails from the same single vineyard as Rosé. The Vineyard was planted on a slope of Red Karoo Clay in 2001 and three wired Perold trained.

The grapes for this Mourvedre were picked two weeks after the grapes for the Rosé. Even more fully ripe, tasting of cherries and sweet fruits. The grapes were harvested by hand and cooled down in little lug boxes to 8 degrees Centigrade. After destemming the grapes, the mash received 5 days’ cold maceration. Because of the cold temperature, yeast was added to start the fermentation process. After fermentation it was matured in third and fourth filled barrels.

Delicate Blackberry and plum flavours on the nose, follow through with spicy stewed fruit flavours on the pallet with elegant velvety tannins.

13.5 % alc 5.7 g/l acidity pH 3,5

Quando Pinot Noir 2015

Quando Pinot NoirBlend: 100% Pinot Noir

This wine originates from one of the highest laying vineyards in the Breede River Valley halfway up the Langeberg Mountains behind the village of Ashton. This small Pinot Noir vineyard is rooted in Weathered Karoo shale and even in summer is sometimes covered in clouds.

The grapes were harvested fully ripe by hand in the cool early morning end February, destemmed by hand and received a cold maceration for one week before fermentation.

After fermentation, half the wine was put in 2nd and 3rd fill French oak barrels and the balance kept in tank where it underwent malolactic fermentation. 12 months later the components were blended together and bottled.

Alluring nose showing red cherries and forest floor notes, following though with a rich and full palate possessing a core of dark fruit with soft fruity tannins.

Quando Mourvédre Rosé 2015

Quando Mourvédre RoséBlend: 100% Mourvèdre

“We planted 1 hectare of Mourvèdre vines in 2001 on a slope of Red Karoo clay. Mouvèdre grapes are of the most flavorful wine grapes to eat and we thought it would make a great Rosé if we could capture those berry flavors in the wine. All the great Rosé’s from Southern France and Spain are made from Mouvèdre and suppose they cannot be wrong!"

During the ripening phase we taste the grapes weekly and wait for raspberry flavors to unfold in the grapes. This normally happens round about 22 Degrees balling . The Mourèdré grapes are harvested by hand and cooled down to 8 degrees Centigrade. After destalking and crushing the grapes, it only receives 40 minutes skin maceration without enzymes to keep the color as light as possible. Only the free run fraction is fermented cold . After fermentation the wine sis kept on its lees for one month and bottled.

This is a wine that I, Fanus Bruwer, make for myself to drink because I love a good Rosé in summer. The wine is pale pink onionskin in color. Red Berries and cassis on the nose follow through with a juicy fruitiness on the palate and elegant acidity.

Quando Chenin Blanc / Viognier 2017

Quando Chenin Blanc / ViognierBlend: 77% Chenin blanc; 23% Viognier
The gnarly old Chenin vines that this wine originates from, still remember being ploughed by our fathers's prized Clydesdale horses. Now we have matched their maturity with the vibrant youth af Viognier, to create this delicious blend.

Deep rich Red well drained Karoo/ Hutting soils.
The Vineyard is a gnarly 30 year old, planted by our father, Irene Martin Bruwer. producing only about 4/5 bunches per vine: 2000 liters per hectare. Flood irrigated three times during the growing season only.

The highest vineyard up on a hill, steep East facing slope, Clone V236. The soil is well drained broken Karoo shale mixed with red Hutton

The Chenin Blanc were harvested fully ripe at 24 Balling by hand , cooled down to 10 degrees Celsius , crushed, only free run juice used and innoculated with yeast to ferment. VIN 13 / NT 116 yeast co innoculation to ferment. The Viognier were harvested two weeks later and the free run juice aded to the fermenting Chenin blanc must Fermented at 16 degrees Centigrade , 6 weeks to complete fermentation Post fermentationt the wine spent 3 months on it's thick lees with low sulphur at 9 degrees Centigrade.

Rose petals, ripe pear and apricot on nose following through with a complex rich and creamy full tropical taste on the pallet.

Quando Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Quando Sauvignon BlancBlend: 100% Sauvignon Blanc

Since we started making wine in 2001 our Sauvignon Blanc has been a real crowd pleaser. It is light green in colour with excotic forthcoming frangipani flower, passionfruit and white peach on the nose. Flinty minerally notes on the pallet follow through with a crisp acidity. Delicious juicy green fruit flavours rounds it off elegantly.
